It is truly shocking that in America the ideas and research of scientist have been purposely kept out of the class room to help form a bias view of our origins. More than 600 scientist world wide no longer believe that Darwin’s theories on evolution can account for the origins of the universe and life. (Click here to view the site dissentfromdarwin) Many scientists are now proposing based on their research the theory of Design. The theory of Design states that the complexity in the universe and especially living organisms can not be explained by random mutations, an unpredictable and purposeless process. Chemist Michael Behe in his book Darwin's Black Box (Free Press, 1996) best explains the design constraints that organisms have at the biochemical level. Design theory is also developed in such scientific and scholarly journals as, The Mystery of Life's Origin, Mere Creation, The Design Inference, and the supplemental high school textbook Of Pandas and People.
Students should know that well credentialed scientists are publishing their research explicitly challenging the neo-Darwinian denial of design in biology. Exposing students to new ideas stimulates student engagement and interest in a subject and often leads to more exploration and learning. Sincere teachers, school boards, and parents need to support a curriculum that exposes students to competing interpretations of the scientific evidence relevant to the origins controversy. Students will learn how to evaluate different interpretations of the scientific evidence available. More importantly they will learn how to tolerate and address different opinions fairly.
