The time has come to reintroduce the greatest book ever written to students across America in the form of a Bible-literacy class. The study of this incredible work of literature is essential to understanding American history. Its influence on the ideas that formed this nation is undeniable and its impact on world history is just as important. It is a crime to hide this resource from our students. Shakespeare has become the bread and butter of English studies in America, yet the bible whose beauty of language is comparable has been brushed aside. It is the Bible that has caused wars, martyrdoms, and provided billions with comfort. Shakespeare himself alludes to the bible some 1,300 times. It is the best-selling book of all time; it is the best-selling book of the year every year. I am not proposing a Sunday school class or a sermon each Monday morning. I am proposing an objective literary study of the bible that would arm students with knowledge of the Book whose influence on Western Culture is immeasurable.
