A Bible literacy class

The time has come to reintroduce the greatest book ever written to students across America in the form of a Bible-literacy class. The study of this incredible work of literature is essential to understanding American history. Its influence on the ideas that formed this nation is undeniable and its impact on world history is just as important. It is a crime to hide this resource from our students. Shakespeare has become the bread and butter of English studies in America, yet the bible whose beauty of language is comparable has been brushed aside. It is the Bible that has caused wars, martyrdoms, and provided billions with comfort. Shakespeare himself alludes to the bible some 1,300 times. It is the best-selling book of all time; it is the best-selling book of the year every year. I am not proposing a Sunday school class or a sermon each Monday morning. I am proposing an objective literary study of the bible that would arm students with knowledge of the Book whose influence on Western Culture is immeasurable. Design Theory

It is truly shocking that in America the ideas and research of scientist have been purposely kept out of the class room to help form a bias view of our origins. More than 600 scientist world wide no longer believe that Darwin’s theories on evolution can account for the origins of the universe and life. (Click here to view the site dissentfromdarwin) Many scientists are now proposing based on their research the theory of Design. The theory of Design states that the complexity in the universe and especially living organisms can not be explained by random mutations, an unpredictable and purposeless process. Chemist Michael Behe in his book Darwin's Black Box (Free Press, 1996) best explains the design constraints that organisms have at the biochemical level. Design theory is also developed in such scientific and scholarly journals as, The Mystery of Life's Origin, Mere Creation, The Design Inference, and the supplemental high school textbook Of Pandas and People.
Students should know that well credentialed scientists are publishing their research explicitly challenging the neo-Darwinian denial of design in biology. Exposing students to new ideas stimulates student engagement and interest in a subject and often leads to more exploration and learning. Sincere teachers, school boards, and parents need to support a curriculum that exposes students to competing interpretations of the scientific evidence relevant to the origins controversy. Students will learn how to evaluate different interpretations of the scientific evidence available. More importantly they will learn how to tolerate and address different opinions fairly.

Peanut Free Schools

Peanuts are the most common cause of death due to an allergic reaction. It is the severity of the reaction to peanuts that is so alarming and there is no cure. The only way to prevent a reaction is to avoid contact with peanuts and all foods containing peanuts. This is difficult since even the smell of peanuts can cause a reaction in many cases.

Young children with this allergy leave there homes every day facing incredible danger and parents are left with the worry that they may never see their child again, simply because there child may come into contact with peanuts. Young children are at great risk because they often lack the capacity to take the precautions necessary to avoid peanuts and are incapable of administering the necessary medication to save their lives. The lives of these children suffering a life threatening allergy are left in the hands of professional adults. These adults are teachers and school administrators. What is the problem? Risk is heightened when the adults do not take peanut allergy seriously, the most deadly of all allergies, and brush it of, as just another allergy. The NYC school system must increase awareness to this allergy and make real efforts to create peanut free schools. This would be a humane effort to save the lives of children.
